Monthly Potluck (BYOF) Established

Tuesday, June 26, 2007

The recent potluck to celebrate Shaili's "not-going-away" was lots of fun - good food with loads of variety, relaxing Saturday afternoon and lots of conversations and catching up done. Mayur Garima and family were missed. On that note, we had a great suggestion from Sushil which all os us agreed to (Mayoor - Yours was a proxy "yes" as we know you never say no to more parties). The suggestion was to make this a monthly event, esp. in the months when there is no festival planned. With all of our lives getting so busy, this sounded like a great idea. So here are the general guidelines that we agreed to

  1. Host to be decided on voluntary rotation basis and taking into account how busy someone is or special events (babies being born, vacations, etc). So, basically, a family just opts to voluntarily fill in one of the upcoming open slots

  2. Sakshi will keep the calendar updated here on the blog. Some of the prefilled slots and associated hosts for festivals will be highlighted.

  3. Let us keep it as BYOF (Bring your own food). Has worked beautifully everytime - minimal coordination needed, allows for last minute changes by each family, loads of variety, the element of surprise. Only change might be for festivals which the host gets to decide.

  4. The host has to coordinate at a minimum the date and the time. The host also gets to call for and organize for any special events like dress code or games or anything else you can think of. Totally upto the host's discretion and not required to be done

  5. The expectation is to try to get as many people together. At no time can everybody's schedule be coordinated. So, some times some families will not be able to make it and that is OK. Let us just try to get together somewhat regularly.

  6. Lunch seems to be working best with the younger kids. But again, it is at the host's discretion and comfort.

Anything that I missed out on? Hopefully this will work well ... Please feel free to make suggestions to add/delete stuff ...
